Brussels, 19/09/2014 (Agence Europe) - The implementing regulation setting import duty in the cereals sector applicable from 19 September 2014 was published, on Friday 19 September, in the Official Journal of the EU. It will double customs duty on imports of maize, sorghum and rye.
Taking note of a drop in prices after three years of stability, the EU brought back customs duty in July, which it set at €5.32 per tonne. The new customs duty from 19 September will be €10.44 per tonne for maize, sorghum and rye.
This increase was triggered “automatically” due to the “recent decline in maize prices on the world market”. These taxes are variable duty indexed on world prices and are applied only if maize prices fall below a certain level. (LC)
