Brussels, 19/09/2014 (Agence Europe) - At SPACE, the international livestock trade fair held in Rennes (France), the European Feed Manufacturers' Federation (FEFAC) on Thursday 18 September renewed its calls for a margin of error to be introduced for genetically modified organisms which have not yet been authorised. Batches of non-GM raw materials may accidentally contain tiny quantities of GMOs banned on European soil and when this happens, the entire batch is unusable. “We are running the risk of interruptions to supply which could cost hundreds of thousands of euros”, warned FEFAC president, Ruud Tijssens. He called on the governments to remain vigilant because ultimately “this will pose a genuine problem of competitiveness”. (LC)
