GENERAL NEWS / (eu) ep/regulation

21/01/2002 (Agence Europe) - Last Thursday, in Strasbourg, after the plenary vote on over 300 amendments to the Zappalà report on the awarding of public contracts (see EUROPE of 18 January, page 9), the new president of the European Parliament Liberal Group, Graham Watson, gave his comments. He said no parliament could vote as many amendments that fast when the majority of the members do not know what they are voting on. He said he insisted that this Parliament should reform its manner of working. In order to do this, British Labour member Richard Corbett felt his report on revision of the Parliament regulation should be included on the agenda of the March session (see EUROPE of 14 and 15 January, p.6). Yes to reform of the regulation, but not in a way that strangles the members of the small groups, was the opinion of Monica Frassoni, joint president of the Greens Group.
