Court referral for Austria's failure to recover illegal aid

Brussels, 14/07/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 14 July, the Commission announced its intention to take Austria to the European Court of Justice (ECJ) for not having recovered €41.5 million in state aid granted to the insurance company Grazer Wechselseitige (GRAWE). The Austrian authorities allowed GRAWE to purchase the Burgenland from the state for a privatisation price that was well below the one proposed by another potential purchaser.
