14/07/2009 (Agence Europe) - Notwithstanding his “qualities of candidate”, the delegation of French Socialists did not support, on Tuesday 14 July, the candidature of Jerzy Buzek (EPP-ED, Poland) to the presidency of the EP, according to a press release from Catherine Trautmann, who heads the delegation. In her view, the French Socialists have always been opposed to the “technical agreement” which allows the EP presidency to be shared between the two main Conservative and Socialist groups, and would have liked to speak out formally on a candidate from their political family. “It is no doubt perfectly logical and coherent that French Socialists have not been able to give their support” to the Polish candidate, said Ms Trautmann.
