14/07/2009 (Agence Europe) - During a press conference in Strasbourg on Tuesday 14 July, when asked about the justification for the role that Joschka Fischer will play at the head of the Nabucco project, Daniel Cohn-Bendit, who is co-president for the Greens, said there was no comparison with the position held by Gerhard Schröder for Nordstream. He pointed out that, unlike the former federal chancellor who took over the helm of a project that he had himself negotiated, the former foreign minister left the federal government four years ago and has not taken part in negotiating the gas pipeline that is to link the Caspian region to Europe via Turkey. The Greens take the view that these two projects are also necessary to ensure security of gas supplies in Europe, said Rebecca Harms, while stressing that the Greens would have preferred Nordstream to go overland without excluding Poland.
