Brussels, 08/09/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 8 September, the European Commission adopted a proposal on total allowable catches (TACs) and quotas in the waters of the Baltic Sea for 2009. It recommends a 15% reduction in fishing possibilities for most species (cod in the Western Baltic, salmon, herring, plaice and sprat). European fishermen will, however, enjoy a 15% increase in the cod quota in the Eastern Baltic as the situation of this stock has improved recently.
