Brussels, 13/12/2007 (Agence Europe) - On 11 December the European Commission decided to open a formal investigation into some of the changes Denmark plans to make to its flat-rate tax regime based on tonnage (tonnage tax). This tax regime enables shipping companies, should they wish to do so, not to pay company tax but to pay a flat-rate tax based simply on the tonnage of their fleet.
