Brussels, 26/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - On 25 October, the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament adopted several recommendations from a working group on parliamentary reform chaired by Dagmar Roth-Behrendt (PES, Germany). The working group was set up on 15 February 2007 with the aim of finding ways to make the EP's work more effective and more attractive to the public. The first raft of measures, adopted on Thursday by the Conference of Presidents, aims to improve the organisation of EP plenary sessions, introducing changes to: - deciding on the agenda and structure of plenary activities; - setting priorities and deciding on the form special annual debates should take; - organising debates, votes and the processing of amendments; - parallel meetings and the seat allocation plan at the Hemicycle building in Strasbourg. The changes are detailed in EUROPE 9507 of 22 September 2007, and will come into force at the start of 2008. The working group will continue its work in the next few weeks with a report on the EP's committees and inter-institutional relations, and another report on foreign relations and suggested changes to how the European Parliament is organised post-2009.
