26/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - The French anti-counterfeiting organisation Unifab is backing the European Commission's call for a negotiating mandate from the EU Council of Ministers for an international anti-counterfeiting trade agreement (see EUROPE 9530). In a press release published on Thursday 25 October, Unifab calls for China to be one of the signatories alongside the United States, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, New Zealand and Switzerland. China is the country where the most counterfeiting takes place. The adoption of an international treaty to combat counterfeiting will complete the arsenal of international legal instruments already in place to tackle counterfeiting, according to Unifab. (L.C.)
