25/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - Italian Samuele Pii was elected as President of JEF Europe in Copenhagen, Denmark, on Saturday 20 October by the majority of delegates at the 19th Congress of the Young European Federalists' organisation. The new President's term of office ends in 2009. The JEF has thirty thousands members in the thirty-seven countries of Europe where the organisation has a presence. Samuele Pii, a thirty-year old from Florence, was a member of the European Youth Convention in 2002 and was until May 2007 President of JEF-Italy, the 'Gioventu Federalist European', the youth section of the European Federalist Movement (UEF-Italy) founded by Altiero Spinelli in 1943. A student at the European University Institute in Florence since 2006, Pii is also active with the Turin-based centre of federalism studies under Professor Antonio Padoa-Schioppa. (O.J.)
