Strasbourg, 25/10/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 24 October, the team that filmed “Auf der anderen Seite” (The Edge of Heaven), directed by Fatih Akin (German, of Turkish origin) was awarded the LUX prize. Awarded for first time in Strasbourg by president Hans-Gert Pöttering, this prize was given for a European film made last year. The film clarifies the debate about European construction, illustrates diversity and highlights European values (EUROPE 9517). Two other films were in the competition: “4 luni, 3 saptamenti is 2 zile” by the Romanian, Cristian Mungiu and “Belle toujours” by Manuel de Oliveira. The LUX Prize means that the film can be subtitled into 23 official languages and adapted for the hard of hearing and blind people in an effort to ensure as wide a distribution as possible in European territory.
