Brussels, 11/05/2007 (Agence Europe) - The presidents of the three European institutions - Angela Merkel (Council), José Manuel Barroso (Commission) and Hans-Gert Pöttering (EP) - as well as the two next European Council presidents (José Socrates of Portugal and Janez Jansa of Slovenia) will be meeting in Sintra (Portugal) this weekend (12/13 May) for an informal meeting on the future of Europe. Discussion will be on the future treaty, climate change, energy, etc. (see EUROPE 9413, 9414 and 9415). This is a personal initiative by Mr Barroso in which the College of Commissioners has never been involved. On the other hand, 27 Commissioners will have the opportunity to reflect and to discuss these same subjects relating to the future of Europe on Monday 14 May during a seminar that the College is to hold at Château Grand-Bigard (Flanders).
