11/05/2007 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament has adopted the own initiative report by Mieczyslaw Edmund Janowski (UEN, Poland) on the future regional policy for innovation in the EU. The EP highlights the areas where intervention by regional political decision-makers could help build the innovation capacity of the EU. It notes, in particular, equal access to education, broadband internet connection throughout the EU to ensure access to all types of information, enforcing intellectual property rights and fostering cross-border cooperation among companies and researchers. The EP calls on the Council, Commission and member states to set up financial and credit instruments that meet real needs and a system for managing the risks involved in innovative projects. (gb)
