G8 environment ministers and those of emerging countries prepare their contribution to G8 summit in Heiligendamm

Brussels, 15/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - The meeting of the environment ministers of the G8, enlarged for the first time to their counterparts of the large emerging countries (Brazil, China, India, Mexico and South Africa) will be held in Potsdam (15-17 March) under the chairmanship of the German environment minister, Sigmar Gabriel. Together, ministers will look at the global environmental challenges that require a global response.

Climate change, energy and biodiversity are on the agenda of the “G8 + 5” attended by the environment minister, Stavros Dimas, to prepare for a concerted contribution to the G8 summit that Angela Merkel, German Chancellor, who will be presiding both the European Council and the G8, is to convene in Heiligendamm in early June.
