15/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - The Robert Schuman Institute for Europe, of which Maurice Rieutord is the secretary general, will be holding a series of events in Rome from 21-23 March in partnership with the Alcide de Gasperi institute, the Pontifical Gregorian University and the European Commission Representation in Italy, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome. Speakers include Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, French Culture Minister; Cardinal Paul Poupard, President of the Pontifical Culture Council; Virgilio Dastoli, Director of the Commission Representation in Rome; and Paul Collowald, President of the Robert Schuman Association of Scy-Chazelles. The latter takes inspiration from Paul Valéry for the title of his speech (“tout se joue dans les commencements”= it all hangs on how it starts) in order to celebrate the 50th anniversary without forgetting the Schuman Declaration, the creation of the ECSC, the attempted EDC and the proposal for a Political Community in March 1953.
