07/02/2007 (Agence Europe) - On 20 and 21 February the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) is holding a high-level conference on the theme “Climate change and employment”. The conference will focus on the results of a study which evaluates the potential impact on European employment of climate change and EU policies to combat the phenomenon by 2030. It will also attempt to explore means of strengthening synergies between climate policy and social and employment policy. The study was funded by the European Commission and six European environment ministries (Belgium, Spain, Finland, France, Italy and the UK). The ETUC General Secretary John Monks will open and close the conference, which will be attended by Commissioners Vladimir Spidla (Employment/Social Affairs) and Stavros Dimas (Environment) and Spanish Environment Minister Christina Narbona.
