14/12/2006 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 13 December the European Parliament adopted the consultative report of de Zsolt László Becsey (EPP-ED, Hungary) on the draft directive extending directive 2002/38/EC on Value Added Tax (VAT) rules applicable to broadcasting services, television and certain electronic services. It supported an extension till the end of 2009 and adopted an amendment from the EPP-ED group requesting the Commission to produce these proposals in “a suitable timeframe” so that it has enough time to give its recommendation. Faced with the slow progress at the Council on work on the VAT package, European finance ministers decided at the end of November to extend this directive till the end of 2008 (EUROPE 9316). (mb)
