Brussels, 14/11/2006 (Agence Europe) - Franco Frattini, the Commissioner for Justice and Home Affairs, has announced that he will be sending a letter to the EU25 Interior Ministers, and to Romania and Bulgaria, calling on them to ban the sale of video games considered too violent. “The Rule of Rose … a new video game teaching them violence”, must be prohibited, Frattini said. The game takes place in England in the 1930s where a boarding school is the theatre of ritual and sadistic homicidal practice by small orphans on the adults of the establishment. Frattini stressed that no-one should allow children's rights to be violated without being punished, and said he wished to be the “spokesperson of that feeling of indignation and of the need for moral care”. According to the Commission spokesperson, the letter will be sent to the different EU capitals on Wednesday or Thursday. (bc)
