18/09/2006 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has stated that it wanted reactions to the speech of Pope Benedict XVI last week in Ratisbonne to be “proportionate” and “based on what really was said”. A Commission spokesperson said on Monday that the ideas expressed by the Pope on Islam should not be taken out of context and that the anger they had provoked in the Muslim world should not threaten freedom of expression.
