Commission proposes radical reform of wine market, grubbing-up vinyeards and scrapping market management measures

Brussels, 22/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 22 June, the European Commission published a report recommending a drastic and profound reform of the common organisation of the wine market in the EU. In order to make EU wine producers more competitive, it suggests measures to encourage the grubbing up (uprooting) of 400,000 hectares (ha) of vineyards over five years and scrapping all market management measures, including distilling wine.
