Brussels, 19/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - In April 2006, industrial production in the euro zone fell by 0.6% compared with March, but showed an increase of 1.9% when compared with April 2005. In the EU, the trend is the same, with a monthly drop of 0.1%, but an annual increase of 2.1%. Compared with March 2006, production of intermediates fell by 0.2% in the euro zone, but showed a rise of 0.5% in the EU as a whole. Non-durable household goods showed respective falls of 0.4% and 0.6%, while investment goods fell by 0.7% in the euro zone and remained stable in the EU25. Durable household goods fell by 0.9% and 0.5% respectively and energy production fell by 2.7% in the euro zone and 2.1% in the EU25. Between April 2005 and April 2006, there was a rise in every category, except durable household goods, which fell by 0.3% in the euro zone. Over the year, industrial production rose in fifteen Member States and fell in six. The largest rises were registered in Luxemburg (+11.6%), Ireland (+10.6%), Poland (+10.2%) and Lithuania (+9.8%), while the largest falls were in Portugal (-3.1%), Italy (-2.6%), Greece (-2.0%) and France (-1.4%).
