19/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - Three days after the EP (EUROPE 9213), the EU expressed, on 16 June, its concern about the human rights situation in Tunisia. The EU: “hopes that the Ligue (Tunisienne de droits de l'homme - LTDH) will be able to resume its normal functions as soon as possible. The European Union regrets that European representatives, notably the representative of the European Parliament, Mrs Hélène Flautre, have been subjected to harassment by the security forces”. The declaration states: “The EU expects that the EU-Tunisia Sub-Committee on human rights and democratisation will be established as soon as possible and that Tunisia will respond favourably to the proposals made by the European Commission in this regard”, as in areas covered by the action plan already signed by this country.
