Commission deplores electoral observer mission

Brussels, 19/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - In response to an invitation from the Instituto federal electoral, the Commission is to deploy an EU Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) in Mexico with a view to the presidential and legislative elections of 2 July. The main team of the mission headed by MEP José Ignacio Salafranca (EPP-ED, Spain) is made up of 9 experts deployed in Mexico since early June. They will be joined by 66 long term observers.
