14/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - The Libyan court which was due to resume the trial against the Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor who stand accused of having propagated the AIDS virus and deliberately infected young children in a Benghazi hospital has once again postponed its deliberations. The hearing will take place on 20 June, according to Bulgarian sources. The second trial is to take place after the death penalty was cancelled for the nurses on 25 December 2005, after which they were sent from Benghazi to Tripoli, where the trial will take place under less tense circumstances, according to the defence. The lawyers for the nurses met leading international medical experts, including Professor Luc Montagnier, who is jointly responsible for discovering the AIDS virus, in Paris on Monday. Professor Montagnier stated that the infection at the Children's Hospital in Benghazi had taken hold before the Bulgarian nurses had arrived. Others have attested that all experiments carried out by internationally renowned specialists have shown that the infections in the Benghazi hospital were due to poor hygiene, thus theoretically clearing the six defendants.
