Brussels, 14/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - According to the president of the Social Platform, Anne-Sophie Parent, the “reflection period” on the constitutional treaty has been “more about killing time”, and the European Commission's Plan D just added to the confusion. Ms Parent also appealed for an “open, structured and visible discussion” to enable citizens take “ownership of the constitutional text”. The platform, which brings together social NGOs, supports the resolution of the European Parliament, presented last week, which in its opinion provides some excellent proposals on the organisation of the dialogue. European leaders have to prove to citizens, who regret the absence of the social dimension in the Constitution, that this text can change things for them and that European policies do not threaten them.
