Brussels, 14/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes was delighted that the objectives of the European Commission, which is proposing to adopt a more economic approach to Article 82 of the EC Treaty (abuse of dominant position), have largely been agreed to by the interested parties, at the end of a consultation procedure begun on 20 December (EUROPE 9094). At the end of a public conference on Wednesday afternoon, the Commissioner underlined that “the objective of the Article 82 review has always been twofold: firstly to improve the quality of our decision and secondly to ensure that we are going after the right cases”. Kroes indicated that the Commission's competition services would now be analysing the contributions it has received (more than a hundred) and the comments made during the conference for examining the direction their new approach should follow in the future.
