After Canary Isles drama, Commission plans no new measures

Brussels, 17/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 17 March, two days after 24 people who had been trying to reach the Canary Isles illegally were found dead, a spokesman told EUROPE that the European Commission was concerned about the situation in Mauritania, but that at the moment there were no plans for new measures. A member of the European Commission from DG Justice, Freedom and Security (JLS) travelled to Mauritania on Thursday with a Spanish delegation to assess the situation. Awaiting further...
