Impact of Suez/GDF merger on Belgian energy market worries Guy Verhofstadt

Brussels, 17/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - During their meeting on Friday, Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt informed Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes of his concerns over the impact of the merger between Gaz de France and Suez on the Belgian electricity market. GDF holds most of the capital of the Belgian electricity producing company SPE, which represents 8% of the Belgian market, while Suez has a 91% share of the Belgian market through its subsidiary Electrabel.
