THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/sri lanka

28/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - The joint presidents of the Tokyo Conference (Japan, Norway, United States, EU) welcome the result of talks on maintaining the ceasefire agreement between the Sri Lankan government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). The parties that met in Geneva on 22 and 23 February renewed their commitment to fully cooperate in respect of the rules of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission - SLMM. Discussions, which also covered the situation of children in the north-east of the country, will continue again in Geneva, from 19 to 21 April. The joint presidents stress the role of facilitator played by Norway and restate their wish to reach an agreement for lasting peace.
