Brussels, 28/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - Etno, the organisation of Europe's telecoms and electronic communications operators has given a satisfactory welcome to the positive balance sheet drawn up by Viviane Reding last week on the European electronic communications market. In its eleventh report, the European Commission observes greater competition, particularly in mobile and broad band communications (EUROPE 9135). The association casts a favourable eye on the Commission's goal of speeding up competition in infrastructure. Nevertheless, it once again indicates that there is an urgent need to reform the current regulatory framework, which it claims has not achieved its objective of deregulation. In a press release Etno “invites the European Commission to seize the opportunity of the ongoing review of the regulatory framework…to engage into a progressive but clear deregulation”. Etno considers that a positive move towards a system governed by competition rules would send the right message to operators currently reflecting on future investment in a sector that is shifting towards a convergence of services.
