Brussels, 28/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - The Commissioner for External Relations, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, met the Russian president's special representative for relations with the EU, Sergei Iastrjembski, in Kaliningrad on Tuesday, as well as the governor of the region of Kaliningrad, Gueorgui Boos. The main issues tackled were the transit of goods and passengers to and from the enclave and Russia and the socio-economic development of the Kaliningrad region. “We came to an understanding that such meetings at political level should take place no less than once a year”, Mr Iastrjembski commented after the meeting. A group of experts has been entrusted with the task of examining the situation at the different border crossing points in order to determine why transit works less well in some places than in others, Mr Iastrjembski said.
