Juncker and Barroso agree on Commission authority should Mittal acquisition of Arcelor be notified to Commission

Brussels, 02/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - The takeover bid launched by Mittal Steel on Arcelor has caused great concern in the countries of origin of the founders of the European group, Arcelor - namely, France, Luxembourg and Belgium (Wallony region). The first two are clearly opposed to the takeover, as is the European Metalworkers' Federation (EMF) whereas the Belgian side is waiting to see “how the situation develops”.
