02/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has decided to refer France to the European Court of Justice for failure to comply with a 2003 judgment by the Court over biotechnology legislation. In spite of warnings, France has still not fully or correctly transposed the directive on the safe handling of genetically modified micro-organisms. The Commission is to ask the Court to impose a daily fine of 168,800 euro on France to apply from the day of a second judgment on this matter.
