Brussels, 02/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the United States announced that another complaint had been filed against Airbus at the WTO following the payment of more British subsidies to the European aeronautics manufacturer. In a press release, US Trade Representative Rob Portman explains that the new complaint aims to include in the Boeing-Airbus dispute a subsidy of £5.2 million (EUR 7.6 million) paid by the Welsh Assembly to train workers for the manufacture of the Airbus A350. We recall that Brussels (which condemns different subsidies provided by certain American States, the Pentagon and NASA) and Washington (which denounces launch aid for the European aircraft manufacturer from certain EU Member States) had filed crossed complaints in Geneva in October 2004. The special groups that were appointed in October last to arbitrate the dispute have between six and nine months in which to give their decision. Portman commented that they still believe a negotiated solution is possible but that subsidies must disappear in one way or another.
