THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/fyrom

02/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 31 January the External Relations Council adopted without debate, its common position 2006/50/CFSP which extends for a further twelve months the ban on entry onto EU territory of extremists from the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM). These measures are addressed to individuals who “actively support or participate in violent extremist action in violation of the basic principles of the Ohrid framework agreement” (stability, territorial integrity and the unitary and multi-ethnic character of FYROM) and/or who “compromise or hinder in a deliberate, repeated and illegitimate way, the implementation of the framework agreement”. The common position, which amends the common position 2006/50/CFSP and updates the list of targeted persons through this measure, will enter into force on 10 February 2006.
