No clash between Merkel and Chirac over nuclear weapons - Concern at European Parliament

Brussels, 24/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - At a press conference after the informal summit in Versailles between France and Germany on January, President Chirac of France laughed off concerns that France had lowered its threshold for using nuclear weapons (see Europe 9115), saying there had been no change in policy. 'There has been no lowering of the nuclear threshold,' Chirac said: 'No one in Germany should be the least bit worried… Under no circumstances are nuclear weapons battle weapons.'...
