Commission plans to work more closely with Overseas Countries and Territories

Brussels, 08/12/2005 (Agence Europe) - At the Annual PTOM Forum (French Overseas Countries and Territories) in Brussels on 5 December, European Development Commissioner Louis Michel announced concrete measures for working more closely with OCTs in programming and implementing EU aid, and the Economic Partnership Agreements negotiated by the European Commission with African, Caribbean and Pacific countries, explains a press release. Louis Michel said an OCT Interservices Group would soon be set up at the European Commission, which would be consulting OCTs before unveiling its new report on the EU's strategy for the Caribbean and its report on EU relations with countries in the Pacific. After their bilateral meeting, Louis Michel and Francois Baroin, French overseas territories minister, suggested convening a meeting at the end of next month between the OCTs, the EU Member States they are connected with, and the European Commission.
