Permanent framework is set in place for industrial and regulatory dialogue

Brussels, 08/12/2005 (Agence Europe) - In the context of the visit to Brussels by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov (EUROPE 9084), Industry Commissioner Günter Verheugen and the Russian Minister for Industry and Energy, Viktor Khristenko, signed documents establishing two permanent frameworks for dialogue between Moscow and the Commission. On one hand, the regulatory dialogue must allow technical regulations concerning industrial products to be harmonised as the differences between the Community and Russian norms and technical regulations are a major obstacle to trade. On the other hand, dialogue on industrial and company policy aims to improve the administrative, regulatory and investment environment for firms established in Russia. Working groups will monitor several industrial sectors, especially telecommunications and information technology, the motor industry, textiles and chemicals and pharmaceuticals. These two dialogues are the key elements of the roadmap aimed at creating a Common Economic Area. The first meetings are scheduled to take place early 2006.
