Brussels, 08/12/2005 (Agence Europe) - As already announced, an extraordinary Competitiveness Council will seek, on 13 December in Brussels, under the presidency of Alan Johnson, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, to reach a political agreement after public deliberation on the proposal for a regulation and the proposal of directive on the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals in the EU. The Competitiveness Council of 29 November had confirmed the different views held from one Member State to the next on several aspects of the legislation proposed, ,but the British Presidency had expressed the hope of reaching a political agreement on 13 December (see EUROPE 9078).
