Parliament calls for observatory on drought, desertification and flooding but rejects creation of temporary committee

Strasbourg, 08/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - On 8 August, the Parliament requested that the European Union create an observatory on drought, desertification and flooding to ensure that the best possible response is given to prevent and control natural disasters of the kind that have mainly affected southern Europe. It rejected, however, by 263 votes in favour, 296 against and 16 abstentions, the proposal by the EPP-ED Group to form a temporary committee responsible above all for examining the...
