GENERAL NEWS / (eu) eu/emergency services

05/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Association EENA (European Emergency Number Association) is continuing its fight for a correct application of European legislation on the single emergency telephone number 112 and has just sent a petition to the European Parliament on the subject. 112, which was instituted by a decision of 29 July 1991, remains largely unknown to the general public and its implementation by the Member States remains incomplete and random. The caller location system has still not been implemented and "European Commission is refusing to act to ensure that calls to 112 are dealt with appropriately", states the association in its petition.
