05/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - Speaking in Cernobbio (see other article), Charlie McCreevy referred to the “national programmes” which the Member States are to present by the end of October as part of the re-launch of the Lisbon Strategy. He pointed out that the Member States needed to identify the “inflexibilities” of their national markets. “In many cases”, he added, “this lack of flexibility will be present in the employment market and/or the social security systems” and may stem from “a lack of competition on various markets for products and/or services”. He also called for an urgent agreement on the proposed directive on services in the internal market.
