Wednesday's Summit to adopt an Action Plan and a political declaration

Brussels, 05/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - The EU-India Summit in New Delhi on Wednesday 7 September is expected to endorse an ambitious Action Plan and a political declaration signalling the commitment of the EU and India to enhanced engagement on all issues of mutual concern. The Action Plan will be divided into four chapters: a political chapter outlining where the EU and India want to intensify political dialogue and join forces on the international stage, including cooperation with the UN; a trade and investment chapter aiming to promote two-way trade flows and investment (a High Level Trade Group will deliver recommendations); an economic policy chapter aiming to put the EU and its economic operators at the core of India's ongoing reform process and enhance economic cooperation in many areas, including space cooperation and India's participation in Galileo and ITER; and a cultural and academic chapter, building on the 2004 EU-India Cultural Declaration. The EU is represented in Delhi by the acting President of the European Council, Tony Blair, the President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, and the EU High Representative, Javier Solana.
