05/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - Published in 1975, the Aerosol Dispensers Directive (ADD) 75/324/EEC is one of the oldest Community directives regulating product safety. Though updated by a 1994 Commission directive that introduced certain provisions on labelling and flammable contents, further adaptation to accommodate technical progress is now needed. Based on a n issue paper drafted by the Commission after an expert group meeting in Brussels on 14 March 2005 saw Member State experts and stakeholders from industry to provide technical information, the European Commission has now prepared a draft proposal for public consultation, addressing a number of issues, including the alignment of ADD provisions with UN recommendations for flammability criteria, the deregulation of nominal quantities and a revision of the values for maximum filling levels and allowable pressure for certain aerosols.
