Brussels, 27/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Commissioner responsible for administration and the fight against fraud, Siim Kallas, confirmed on Wednesday that the European Commission will, on 18 May, discuss an initiative for improving transparency within European institutions. The debate will cover: - the question of access to data on the recipients of European funding; - the activities of pressure groups and NGOs; - and the integrity of persons within institutions (developing good practices). “I hope the debate will result in concrete proposals”, he said. He also supported the idea of creating an interinstitutional committee on ethical norms and recalled that this was one of the ideas proposed in the White Paper of 2000, an idea that is still on the table and that he is ready to discuss with his peers and the other institutions.
