THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) council of europe/serbia and montenegro

27/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - In a speech before the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg on 26 April, the President of Serbia and Montenegro, Svetozar Marovic, reiterated that the principle objective of the federation and of the two Member States of it remains Euro-Atlantic integration and access to the European institutions. He promised that Serbia and Montenegro would continue to cooperate in full with the international institutions, and particularly with the Criminal Tribunal in The Hague. Serbia and Montenegro will do its best to ensure that negotiations on the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU can start as soon as possible, he said, adding that he hoped his country would be able to benefit from a “somewhat shortened procedure” (see EUROPE 8935).
