Brussels, 18/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday Margot Wallström, European Commissioner for institutional relations and communication strategy welcomed with “satisfaction” the decision by the Conference of presidents of the political groups at the European Parliament, to accept the consolidated draft framework agreement on relations between Parliament and the Commission (EUROPE 8928). According to the vice-president of the Commission, this amended agreement contains “many elements which are positive for both institutions” and “paves the way for better future cooperation. “It strengthens the democratic legitimacy of the Union and the political responsibility of the Commission, without affecting formal prerogatives of each EU institutions”, Ms Wallström was pleased to declare. She also noted that the agreement includes: new provisions on the approval of the new Commission, better participation EP in the legislative programme and work of the Commission, a reference for the annual inter-institutional programming and more transparency as regards experts groups.
