Commission welcomes election of Memet Talat at head of Northern Cyprus

Brussels, 18/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - the European Commission has welcomed the election of Mehmet Ali Talat to the Head of Northern Cyprus. A Commission press release on Monday confirmed that, “his success confirms the strong desire of the Turkish Cypriot community for reunification and full integration into the EU”. Mehmet Talat is currently prime minister of the Self-Proclaimed Republic of Northern Cyprus and was elected with 56% of the vote, against the 23% his main rival, Dirvis...
