Brussels, 08/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - European Commission President José Manuel Barroso has sent a congratulatory telegram to the new Iraqi President Jalal Talabani. “I wish to confirm to you our intention to continue supporting the Iraqi reconstruction as well as the political and constitutional processes that lie ahead and which should translate into a better and prosperous life for the entire Iraqi population and future generations of Iraqis”, he said in his message. He also congratulated Mr Talabani for his “ambition to make this process as inclusive as possible so that all sectors of Iraqi society can take part in these important challenges. This will be essential for bringing increased stability and security to your country”.
CFSP High Representative Javier Solana congratulated the Iraqi National Assembly for having made this important step in the transition process and expressed a hope that Iraq “will soon see the constitution of the whole government”. “The leadership of Iraq which is emerging has a broad base with participation from all major groupings. (…) I look forward to working with the new leadership of Iraq”.
